Dr. Yohannes Gemechu is a postdoctoral fellow at Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center, MGH and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Yohannes was trained as a Medical Biochemist and Immunologist. Currently, Dr. Yohannes along with the teams of scientists at VIC is developing a therapeutic and prophylactic vaccines for infectious disease and infectious pathogen induced cancers.
Prior to joining VIC, MGH, Dr. Yohannes received his PhD and a post-doctoral fellowship training at Immunology Frontier Research Center (IFReC), Osaka University. He was Kishimoto Fellowship recipient.
He had also served as an Assistant Lecturer and Lecturer at Addis Ababa University. During his PhD study, he unraveled immunomodulatory drugs mechanism of action in a genetically engineered mice (humanized cereblon mice) which lays a solid ground for a preclinical toxicology study of a newly developed IMiDs. His prior work ranges from immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) application for autoimmune diseases (intestinal bowel disease) to hematological malignancies.
