Mai is a 3rd-year medical student at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan and recently joined in the Kashiwagi lab. She is interested in vaccination and immunotherapy because they are effective ways of curing patients with a wide variety of diseases, not only infectious diseases but also several cancers. Recently, made-to-order therapy has been under the spotlight and she believes that immunotherapy against specific cancers is a prime example. In addition, vaccination is a popular way to prevent many infectious diseases. A large number of children all over the world are killed by infectious diseases every year. Mai believes that the development and improvement of vaccinations is a pressing issue we need to focus on, and enhancement of the effect of the vaccine is an urgent task.
